What sort of documentation is required when applying for a loan?

At Sebasticook Valley Federal Credit Union, we’re dedicated to making your loan application process as smooth and easy as possible. While each loan and individual situation may have unique requirements, here are some general things you can expect to provide when applying for a loan with us.

1. Proof of Identity: To help us confirm your identity safely and securely, you’ll need to provide a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.

2. Proof of Income: We want to understand your financial picture. Providing recent pay stubs (usually the last two or three), W-2 forms from the past two years, or tax returns if you’re self-employed, helps us see your ability to repay the loan.

3. Employment Verification: Knowing where you work gives us confidence in your financial stability. Please be ready to share your employer’s contact information and a summary of your employment history over the past two years.

4. Credit Information: Your credit history is a key part of your application. We’ll ask for your permission to run a credit check and might need some additional background information. Don’t worry – we’re here to help guide you through this!

5. Proof of Residence: Establishing your current residence is important to us. You can do this with a recent utility bill, lease agreement, or mortgage statement. This helps us verify where you call home.

6. Debt Information: To get a full picture of your financial commitments, we’ll need a list of your current debts, like credit card balances and other loans, along with recent statements for each. This helps us tailor the loan to fit your needs.

7. Collateral Information: If you’re applying for a secured loan, we’ll need details about the collateral, like the title for a vehicle or the deed for a property. This secures your loan and often helps you get better terms.

We recognize loan applications can seem overwhelming, but our online loan application makes it easy to apply from the comfort of your home, with step-by-step instructions. And, our staff in Newport and Pittsfield are happy to assist you in person or by phone as well. Plus, with competitive rates that rival traditional bank rates due to our member-oriented focus, you can enjoy keeping a little more in your pocket.
